Details Emerge on Broncos' Deal With RB Samaje Perine

It's time to break down Samaje Perine's new contract with the Denver Broncos.
In this story:

The Denver Broncos have been more active in free agency than in some time, having made multiple moves early in the 'legal tampering' period.

I'm examining the contract breakdown for each player as the details are revealed. Let's look at the deal the Broncos gave to running back Samaje Perine.

Gut Reaction

It's interesting that the Broncos only made the signing bonus fully guaranteed, though the base salary could be considered an effective guarantee. It's hard to imagine the Broncos cutting Perine before the season, so his base salary will become fully guaranteed under the vested veteran rule.

It's also worth noting that the contract is front-loaded, allowing Perine to earn the majority of the contract in his first season. However, it's still structured to allow the Broncos to get out of the deal in 2024 if he doesn't perform well this season.

The contract is a good one for both Perine and the Broncos. Perine has a chance to earn the majority of the deal this season, and the Broncos got him at a good price.

Given Perine's skill set, he could excel in Sean Payton's offense, which means there's a chance for this to turn into a value signing. We'll find out for sure during the season, but the Broncos did well with this deal.

Contract Grade: A-
