Report: Vic Fangio Helping Eagles to Beat Chiefs in Super Bowl
Vic Fangio might be a coach for hire, but he's still acting in the interest of the Denver Broncos. According to a new report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Fangio has been in Arizona helping the Philadelphia Eagles game plan against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Fangio signed a two-week contract with the Eagles after Philadelphia beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, league sources told ESPN.
Rather than pack up for his move to Miami, Fangio spent the past two weeks in Arizona at the Philadelphia team hotel, helping Eagles coaches and players get ready for the Chiefs. More specifically, he assisted the offensive staff in their self-scouting process and supplied knowledge of the Chiefs' defense that he faced twice a year while he was the head coach of the Broncos from 2019 to 2021.
In his three years as Broncos head coach, Fangio went 19-30 but his defenses always confounded Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. It just never led to victories. The Chiefs would score under their average and have to nickel-and-dime their way to a win.
Fangio has never won a Super Bowl as a coach. However, if the Eagles defeat the Chiefs, Fangio would get his first-ever Super Bowl ring as a part of Philly's staff.
That would be pretty cool to Broncos Country, especially if it came at the expense of the Chiefs.
Following the Super Bowl, Fangio will head to Miami to sign his contract with the Dolphins to become defensive coordinator.
