Report: Broncos K Wil Lutz Switches to No. 3 Jersey After Wilson Exit
In the NFL equivalent of deleting photos of your ex from Instagram, the Denver Broncos have bequeathed Russell Wilson's No. 3 jersey following the veteran quarterback's release and subsequent agreement with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Denver Gazette's Chris Tomasson reported Tuesday that Broncos kicker Wil Lutz will rock the digit, which he previously donned for seven seasons in New Orleans. Lutz wore No. 16 in 2023, his first year with the club.
The No. 3, to say the least, hasn't been kind to its last two Broncos owners — Wilson and former QB Drew Lock, who went a combined 19-32 during their respective tenures in the Mile High City.
Only 10 players in franchise history have worn No. 3, perhaps most famously iconic kicker Rich Karlis from 1982-1988.
Lutz, who re-signed with the Broncos on a two-year contract Tuesday, will look to follow in Karlis' footsteps — literally and figuratively — vanquishing what's since become cursed lore.
