Browns Bringing Back Punter Corey Bojorquez On Two-Year Deal
To this point the Browns offseason plans have centered around retaining many of the key contributors from last season's playoff team. That applies to the team's special teams units as well.
With under 10 hours remaining until the official start of the NFL league year, Cleveland agreed to terms on a two-year deal with punter Corey Bojorquez, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. The deal will be made official at 4 p.m. today.
Bojorquez, 27, has become a steady flipper of the field for Cleveland over the last two seasons. This past year, under new special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone, Bojorquez booted 31 punts inside the 20 – good for top five in the NFL. He also saw his net punting yards jump slightly to 42.2 from just over 40 in 2022. His touchback percentage dropped slightly as well to just 10.3-percent. He was named a Pro Bowl alternate for his efforts.
The six-year veteran started his career as an undrafted free agent with the Patriots in 2018 but was released prior to the start of the regular season that year and wound up landing with the Bills in short order. Bojorquez went on to spend three seasons in Buffalo, posting the highest net punting average of his career in 2020, booming punts for an average of 44 yards.
After going unretained by Buffalo in 2021, he wound up signing with the Rams but was traded to Green Bay in August and spent one season there before coming to Cleveland a year later.
Bojorquez also serves as the holder for Browns kicker Dustin Hopkins, who put up career numbers last fall during his first season in Cleveland.
