Browns Camp Notes Day 11: Watson Sharp in the Rain
Day 11 was more intense than previous days, which included a lot of rain in Berea.
While the Browns look pretty solid overall as we head into the "dog days" of training camp and the preseason, there's of course always room for them to improve.
During one-on-one drills, Donovan Peoples-Jones had a sliver of separation against cornerback Martin Emerson. However, the throw from Deshaun Watson was off target and behind the running Peoples-Jones. It was some sort of miscommunication, which again, happens during camp to every NFL team.
However, it was impressive to see immediately following the play, Watson run over to Peoples-Jones to ensure the quarterback and receiver were on the same page. It shows Watson's leadership and desire to be as close to perfect as possible.
Overall, looking at the quarterback room, it's impressive what the Browns have done. Obviously they have Watson leading the room, their franchise quarterback. Behind Watson though, Joshua Dobbs has been really impressive and is a true veteran. He seems to understand every scenario and capitalize on his opportunities.
Even behind the top two guys, rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson has been playing really well which all Browns fans were clearly able to see during the team's Hall of Fame Game on Thursday.
There's no question that Thompson-Robinson still has a long ways to go to become a great quarterback in the NFL and that has been shown throughout camp.
Today, the Browns were running a drill where the offense needed to drain out the rest of the clock to win the game. Thompson-Robinson evaded pressure and threw the ball out of bounds. Safe to say it was a learning moment, as Kevin Stefanski let him know following the play.
The Browns are not only thrilled with their quarterback room, but also their wide receivers.
Deshaun Watson's chemistry with Elijah Moore seems to be something special. Moore has looked incredible throughout camp thus far and the connection with Watson has developed extremely quick.
Another receiver who's been making a name for himself though is Austin Watkins Jr. Watkins was signed by the team in late July and has impressed the Browns. With injury to Daylen Baldwin, it keeps players like Watkins' hopes alive to potentially make the 53-man roster and if not, the practice squad.
Among the key injuries from the day, Jerome Ford left the field with a right hamstring injury and offensive lineman Drew Forbes was carted off due to a back injury.
