Could The Browns Add A Third Helmet To Their Wardrobe?

A new NFL rule will allow teams to add an additional, alternate helmet. Should the Browns add another one to their arsenal?

In this story:

As Browns fans wait for the team to reveal a return to white facemasks, a new rule could have Cleveland thinking of another new look.

The NFL informed teams earlier this week that they expanding their uniform policy, similarly to what they've done in recent years, by allowing teams to add a third helmet to their uniform closet. Any team going through a re-design process this offseason – like the Browns – will be first up for adding a third shell, but every team will have the ability to add one in 2025.

Teams were first granted permission to have an alternate helmet in 2022, after a more than decade-long policy that allowed for just one helmet to be worn for each game. That change helped birthed the Browns new, popular all-white helmet that they wore for two games this past season.

With Cleveland being one of the teams going through a reported re-design that will make white facemasks the standard look for their regular helmets, now the question becomes: should they add a third helmet style?

What's interesting for the Browns is their classic orange helmet with the stripe down the middle and soon to be white facemasks is already a pretty crisp look. The organization also knocked the all-white helmets out of the park last year as part of the all-white alternate uniform. This almost feels like a classic case of "why mess with a good thing?"

Let's be honest though, the Browns color scheme makes it experiment. Could they try an a brown helmet? Maybe. But even when the franchise rocked the all-brown color rush uniforms for a time it was the regular orange helmet with the accenting orange numbers that pulled that look altogether. A brown helmet doesn't even sound appealing to type.

Perhaps gray could be an option but what uniform would that go with right now? Also the gray phase for sports uniforms feels so 2017.

Now, what might work is the original helmet only a version that features one of what feels like a rolodex of logos the franchise seems to have. The new dog. The old dog. Or, the fan favorite, Brownie the Elf. It would certainly be a different style for the Browns to actually feature a logo on their helmet.

No matter what, even the sheer mention of a potential third helmet should be enough for the uniform design buffs to start Photoshoping some potential alternate looks.

What would you want a third Browns helmet to look like?
