Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku's playing status is still unknown after suffering burns to his face and arm in an accident at his home. He arrived to the stadium ahead of the Baltimore Ravens game wearing a mask covering his whole face.

The burns could make it difficult for him to wear a helmet, let alone play. With the helmet designed to fit tightly, the rubbing on his face could be agony. That's before considering the physicality of the game with opponents grabbing his arm and how that might feel. A wrap is only going to do so much to mitigate the pain.

Njoku has suggested he intends to play and the mask might be a jab at himself in addition to furthering that mindset.

The challenge for the Browns equipment and medical staff is how to dress the burns in a way that can protect Njoku insofar that's possible while also being able to wear his equipment.

The arm is likely simpler, since it's typically uncovered. Wrapping it up as much as possible, plus whatever kind of treatment they will use to try to reduce the pain. The face is going to be difficult. Whatever topical treatment they use plus bandages and any additional protection still has to fit under the helmet and may only do so much.

On top of everything else, the weather for the game is supposed to be beautiful with temperatures in the upper 70s. The dressings they plan to use on his face will only make it hotter inside his helmet, which is one other variable he'd have to combat.

Like with quarterback Deshaun Watson, the team will have to see what Njoku can do and endure before making a determination on his playing status. If Njoku is unable to go, the Browns will have Harrison Bryant, Jordan Akins and Zaire Mitchell-Paden, a practice squad player activated as a precaution to fill out the position.
