Deshaun Watson Receives MRI For Ankle Injury
Deshaun Watson finally earned his signature win with the Browns on Sunday in Baltimore.
But the efforts didn’t come without a physical price.
Watson received a MRI on Monday for an ankle injury he suffered in the 33-31 win over the Ravens, as head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed.
Watson said after the game that the injury occurred at the end of the first half after Watson was sacked by his former Browns teammate, Jadeveon Clowney. Watson stayed in the game for eight more plays prior to the break but on the final play of the half went to the locker room early to have his ankle examined. In his brief absence, backup quarterback P.J. Walker attempted a Hail Mary pass that fell incomplete to end the half.
Watson returned for the second half and played exceptionally well through the pain, completing all 14 of his pass attempts for 134 yards and a touchdown in the third and fourth quarters. The finish for Watson was miles better than the start to the game, which resulted in him completing just one of his first nine passing attempts and throwing an interception.
The fact Watson finished the game suggests the MRI shouldn’t reveal anything that would sideline him for a prolonged period. After the game the former first-round pick was adamant that he'd be "ready to go" for next week.
Watson recently returned from an injury to the rotator cuff on his throwing shoulder that sidelined him for all but 12 snaps between Weeks 4-8. He certainly appeared to be finding his stride in his two games since returning, completing 60 percent of his passes for 432 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
Stefanski also didn’t have updates on any of the other Browns players who were injured in Sunday’s win. Cornerback Denzel Ward left the game with a neck injury and safety Juan Thornhill left the game with a calf injury.
Additionally, he failed to provide an update on offensive tackle Dawand Jones, who missed the game due to shoulder and knee injuries suffered in Week 9.
