Browns Elevate QB from Practice Squad
The Cleveland Browns have elevated quarterback P.J. Walker from the practice squad to the active game-day roster for Sunday’s game against the Ravens. Many will automatically take this as a sign that Watson won’t be playing but I don’t think it means too much either way.
Since the injury is basically dealing with pain and soreness from a badly bruised shoulder, I wouldn’t expect an official decision to be made on Watson until a few hours before the game. It will all depend on how it feels on Sunday morning after he gets another day of rest today.
If Watson can’t play it will be the rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson making his first NFL start for the Browns. The rookie shined during the preseason and created buzz for himself as a potential future starter in the league.
Either way, you might expect the Browns to attempt to lean a little more on the ground game. The Browns will have no excuse for losing due to injury as the Ravens come in with a large number of key players already ruled out and star left tackle Ronnie Stanley ruled as doubtful for the game.
Walker would serve as either the backup to Thompson-Robinson or as the third QB if Watson struggles throwing the ball with the injury. He is ineligible to be used under the new third emergency QB rule as he isn't on the 53-man roster as the rule requires.
