Report: Browns Request Interview With Kellen Moore For Offensive Coordinator
The Browns are dipping their hand in interviewing an offensive coordinator who is likely to receive plenty of attention over the next few weeks.
Cleveland has requested an interview with Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their vacant offensive coordinator role, according to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Moore, who was with the Chargers for just one season, is expected to be allowed to speak with other teams after Los Angeles hired Jim Harbaugh as their head coach.
Pelissero also reported that Moore was set for an interview with the Eagles, and it appears other teams looking for offensive coordinators could also request interviews.
If the Browns were to hire Moore, head coach Kevin Stefanski would likely have to give him play calling duties, according to Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot.
Moore played quarterback in the NFL for six years with the Lions (2012-14) and Cowboys (2015-17) before joining the Cowboys as the quarterbacks coach in 2018. He was promoted to offensive coordinator from 2019-22 before mutually agreeing to part ways and joining the Chargers in January 2023.
The Chargers, however, finished the season far from expectations with a 5-12 record that included them firing head coach Brandon Staley in the middle of the season. Los Angeles ranked 18th in the league in offensive efficiency.
The Browns parted ways with offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt after an early exit in the playoffs with a 45-14 loss to the Texans in the Wild Card Round. Running backs coach Stump Mitchell and tight ends coach T.C. McCartney were also fired, and the Browns on Wednesday replaced Mitchell with Duce Staley.
The Browns have also already interviewed Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, Seahawks offensive line coach Andy Dickerson and former Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey for the offensive coordinator opening.
