Browns Myles Garrett Now Part Owner Of Another Cleveland Team
Myles Garrett's love for basketball has been well documented. Now he's investing in the sport.
The Cleveland Cavaliers announced today that the Browns star pass rusher has purchased a minority stake in the franchise, joining forces with long-time team Chairman and Governor, Dan Gilbert's ownership group. According to the press release Garrett will serve as an official "brand ambassador" for the Cavs as well.
"As a leader on and off the field, Myles has become a Cleveland icon and shares in our organization’s commitment to being a transformative force for good across the region,” Gilbert said. “We are honored to welcome this long-time friend of the team as our new partner and investor. Myles’ passion and commitment to the city he loves will allow us to reach new communities and continue to build the successful future of this franchise.”
Garrett has been present at numerous Cavs games over the years and even made appearances at the NBA summer league. Perhaps most notably, he participated in the Celebrity All-Star Game during the NBA's All-Star Weekend back in 2022. In typical Myles Garrett fashion, he provided some of the top highlights of the night.
There was also a funny moment back in 2021, when Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski jokingly announced Garrett's retirement from basketball after a video of him throwing down a vicious dunk in a pickup game made waves on social media.
“I have admired the Cavaliers organization’s hard work, tenacity and dedication to the community since my early days in Cleveland,” said Garrett in the announcement. “To have the opportunity to join this impressive and purpose-filled franchise, under Dan’s leadership, is truly a dream come true.”
While Stefanski may have made Garrett hang up his Jordans, Garrett found an even more impactful way to scratch his basketball itch.
