Browns to Sign RB Jordan Wilkins
The Cleveland Browns have signed running back Jordan Wilkins after a workout with four other players, including Wes Hills, Nate Meadors, Colby Richardson and Aaron Shampkin per Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston. Wilkins was a fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts.
At 6'1" 216 pounds, Wilkins offers size similar to that of the currently injured Jerome Ford, but he has some wiggles as well.
Wilkins played a decent amount in his first three seasons with the Colts, totaling 958 yards on 195 carries. In his last two, he's bounced between the Colts and Tennessee Titans, only appearing in a total of five games and rushing for 58 yards on 13 carries.
The 29-year old Wilkins should help fill the gap when the team practices against the Philadelphia Eagles, followed by their preseason game this coming Thursday. The team has described Ford's hamstring as week-to-week with the hope he can be ready to go for the start of the season, but Wilkins provides some temporary roster relief.
The Browns will likely use the roster spot for linebacker Jacob Phillips, who suffered a season-ending pec injury against the Washington Commanders.
