Browns Waive Quarterback and Defensive End
The Cleveland Browns have waived quarterback Kellen Mond and defensive end Charles Wiley. Mond is entering his third year and was originally drafted in the third round of the 2021 draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He was cut last year by the Vikings at the end of preseason and was claimed by a Browns team who kept him on the roster for the entire season.
Wiley was signed by the team a few weeks ago after the Hall of Fame game to provide depth after both Alex Wright and Isaiah Thomas were injured. Wiley was in his second season and hd previously spent time with the Ravens and Giants.
For Mond, the decision to draft Dorian Thompson-Robinson in this year's draft always meant that his time in Cleveland would likely be coming to an end. Both Mond and Wiley were not going to play this Saturday in the preseason finale so their release comes a few days early with the hopes of getting a head start on finding a new team.
Mond performed well enough for the Browns to potentially earn a spot on someone else's practice squad. He completed 27 passes for 297 yards and threw 3 touchdown passes in the preseason.
Stay tuned for all the latest as cutdown become official over the coming days.
