David Njoku Shares Photos of Burn Injuries Suffered Before Ravens Game
David Njoku has revealed the extent of the burn injuries he suffered in a household incident a day before the Cleveland Browns’ Week 4 matchup with the Ravens — and the photos have equally revealed plenty about Njoku’s toughness.
Njoku, who suffered the injuries during a fire pit accident and wore a mask walking into the stadium prior to the game, shared Wednesday on Instagram the extent of the damages with a selfie. His caption was only one word: “Legacy.”
Njoku deserves ample credit for playing that day, especially since he led Browns receivers that game with six receptions and 46 receiving yards, which was two yards shy of his highest output so far this season.
He was listed questionable before the game because of doubts of whether he’d even be able to wear a helmet.
He also deserves credit for turning his accident into a charitable cause — he launched a line of merchandise named “Withstand,” and a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the American Burn Association.
Njoku also plans to raise awareness for the ABA and survivors of serious burn-related incidents with cleats he’ll wear during the NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” initiative in Week 13.
"I want to use my platform to help bring awareness to an all too common issue,” he said in the release. “The doctors at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center were instrumental in my recovery, and I am forever grateful for their expertise and care. By working with the ABA, I hope to provide resources and support to burn survivors and their families."
