Cleveland Browns: Confidence in Greg Robinson

Greg Robinson came in and stabilized the Cleveland Browns offensive line when he took over at left tackle. The Browns don't need him to perform miracles but there are a few good reasons to believe his redemption can continue with a productive year in 2019.

I am perhaps irrationally confident in Greg Robinson this season. After coming in part way through last season and stabilizing the Cleveland Browns left tackle position, I believe his redemption story continues and he will play at least as well as he did last year and likely better in 2019 for three main reasons.

First is his continued work with Offensive Line Performance. Robinson has been working with LeCharles Bentley for years and addressed a lot of his fundamental issues as well as continuing to improve his body. Kyle Kalis, currently competing for a starting guard position, also trains at OLP.

Second, an offseason knowing where he stands with the Browns as well as a better offensive line coach in James Campen. Robinson came in as a flyer and took over the job the second half of the year. This season, he's THE guy and will have ample opportunity to work next to Joel Bitonio and the first team in general to prepare for the season. Between last year's play and this preparation, Robinson should be far more confident in what he can do.

Last but certainly not least is money. Robinson signed a one-year deal that could be worth up to $9M, but he's got a huge opportunity to parlay that into a long term contract with another team after this season. This could be his last opportunity to cash in since his rookie contract.

Robinson has real flaws to address including his balance, eliminating inside pressure and improving his run blocking, but Baker Mayfield covers up a lot of mistakes. If Robinson can keep the left tackle position stabilized, it will allow the Browns to move on to a more permanent solution in 2020. This presents a possible win-win situation for both parties.
