David Njoku Joked About Skepticism For Joe Flacco When He First Joined Browns

Joe Flacco's arrival in Cleveland wound up being a blessing for the Browns, but tight end David Njoku joked he was a little skeptical of the former Ravens presence with the team.

David Njoku isn't the type of guy anyone should want to mess with.

Known for warming up shirtless prior to games, the Browns tight end is quite the physical specimen, a trait he used to finish top 10 in yards after catch this past season.

Much of that production came at the hands of veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who took over under center for Cleveland late in the season. As Cleveland navigated a carousel of quarterbacks this past season due to numerous injuries, Flacco joined the team from the couch after spending the first 11 weeks of the 2023 campaign unsigned as a free agent.

While the move wound up being fruitful for both Njoku and the Browns, the 2017 first-round pick joked on the Green Light With Chris Long Podcast that he was a little skeptical of the former Ravens QB upon his arrival in Cleveland.

"I saw him in the training room and I kinda like sized him up," Njoku said. "He was on the Ravens for so many years, I think my rookie year he beat me. So I had to make sure he wasn't an undercover op, you know? But he was awesome, he was a blessing for sure."

Obviously Njoku's comments are tongue in cheek. He and his Browns teammates were responsible for creating one of the most tight-knit locker rooms in the NFL this year and Flacco fit right in as soon as he got to town.

Njoku went on to further praise the veteran QB for helping him produce the best season of his career.

"That chemistry happened just like that," said Njoku. "It was almost like I knew when he was throwing it to me before the ball was going to snap, just because it was more like a feel. But we definitely had fun. Hopefully he stays in Cleveland."

Njoku isn't alone there. Plenty of Browns fans  echo Njoku's plea to keep the 16-year veteran in Cleveland. Time will tell if the team brass will attempt to bring him back next year.
