Dawand Jones Gets Some Starter Reps
Cleveland Browns rookie offensive tackle Dawand Jones was taking reps with the starters at right tackle during today's joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles. He split them with James Hudson, as the team continues to evaluate their backup tackle depth.
It was announced earlier today that starting right tackle Jack Conklin was placed in the concussion protocol and won't be able to practice again until he is cleared. Conklin left Monday's practice after being evaluated in the medical tent. James Hudson replaced Conklin with the starters yesterday and many assumed that it would just be Hudson getting all of those reps today.
Jones ended up getting a significant amount of snaps with the starters by the end of practice. This is a great sign for both the team and Jones. The rookie has been outstanding so far during his preseason action. In seventy-six snaps he has allowed 0 sacks and only 1 pressure. He has looked big and physical while being light on his feet.
The fourth round pick has received a lot of positive reviews from those who study offensive line play around the league. As a matter of fact, one of his biggest fans to date on social media has been NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger, who just happened to reportedly be in attendance today.
Conklin shouldn't miss any game action as the starters will not play in the game against the Eagles on Thursday night and will have ten days afterward until they play the preseason finale in Kansas City.
