Does Browns' QB Joe Flacco Think He's Worthy Of Come Back Player of the Year?
It's one of the feel good stories of the NFL season so far. Joe Flacco's journey from coach potato – okay that's not quite fair cause he was staying in shape – to Browns starting quarterback has been something out of Hollywood.
After throwing for 347 yards against the Bears last weekend, Flacco set the fifth highest mark all time for passing yards by a player in his first three starts with a team. He's got 939 of them, to go along with seven touchdowns and five interceptions. 212 of those yard came in the fourth quarter of Cleveland's 20-1 7 win over Chicago, the most passing yards by a Browns QB in a single quarter in 45 seasons.
The numbers speak for themselves, however, most importantly of all Browns are 2-1 in games he's started and on the brink of clinching a playoff berth for the second time in four seasons. If Flacco is able to pull that off, some people believe he should be in the running for Comeback Player of the Year.
Flacco though, isn't quite sure he deserves it over some of his other NFL contemporaries.
“Who knows what constitutes a comeback?," Flacco asked. "I’ve only played three games. I mean, it’s kind of crazy. Come back from not going to training camp and busting kids around. I mean, who knows?”
For what it's worth, Flacco currently sits among the top three betting favorites to win the award in a number of Sportsbooks. The odds on favorite though – rightfully so – is Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who returned to football this year after going into cardiac arrest on the field against the Bengals last season.
How Did C.J. Stroud Injury Update Impact Browns vs. Texans Spread?
Hamlin hasn't played much this season, appearing in four games for Buffalo thus far and registering two tackles. Still his story remains an moving one and he'd certainly be worthy of the honor.
Flacco may have a point, that his comeback story is far less profound. That won't stop Browns fans from continuing to enjoy the ride with the 38-year-old veteran under center and plead their case for why he should receive the honor.
