Former Cleveland Browns cornerback Greedy Williams was released by the Philadelphia Eagles today. Williams who was a former second round pick of the Browns in the 2019 draft, signed with the Eagles during free agency in the offseason.

Williams was competing to make a talented Eagles secondary led by Darius Slay and James Bradbury. He had been trying to earn a backup role on the outside but it appears now that second year corner Josh Jobe, along with rookies Eli Ricks and Kelee Ringo were firmly ahead of him on the depth chart. The early release now gives Williams a chance to catch on with another team prior to teams cutting their final roster to 53.

Williams was often injured in his time with the Browns. After an up and down rookie year, he suffered a serious shoulder injury that would cause nerve damage and keep him out the entire year. The Browns went on to draft Greg Newsome that year due to concerns surrounding Williams.

It was a struggle for Williams to return to the field before he finally was able prior to the 2021 season. He played decent as he split time with A.J. Green in a backup role. In 2022, the final year of his rookie contract, he found it difficult to find the field for games as the team had by then added Martin Emerson Jr. through the draft. He was a healthy scratch for most games.

Over his career he ended up playing in 39 games, totaling 2 interceptions for the Browns. The early release now gives Williams a chance to catch on with another team prior to teams cutting their final roster to 53.
