Not even three weeks since being let go by the Cleveland Browns, former offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt found a new home in New England

Van Pelt spent four seasons in Cleveland under head coach Kevin Stefanski but now teams up with first-time head coach Jerrod Mayo looking to return the Patriots to glory.

Van Pelt was Stefanski's original choice for OC when he took the Browns job in 2020. Van Pelt joined him in Cleveland after a one-year stint in Cincinnati as the quarterback's coach. He spent the previous five years in Green Bay in the same role.

In his time in Cleveland he helped coach Baker Mayfield to his best season as a pro in 2020, he guided Jacoby Brissett to some pretty good football in 2022 and then helped manage four different starting quarterbacks to the playoffs in 2023.

Can Pelt did a respectable job in his during his time with the organization, but as the Browns look to return quarterback Deshaun Watson to a top 10 QB they decided to go I'm a different direction.

In New England, AVP will have his work cut out for him, helping build a Patriots team that finished 2023 with the third-worst record in the league. Making matters worse, their offense finished 30th overall.

That said, the franchise is well positioned to select a quarterback with the third overall pick. If they go that route Van Pelt will have a chance to potentially oversee the development of the next great Pats QB.
