Former Browns WR Airs Out Dirty Laundry From Time In Cleveland On Social Media
Jarvis Landry was the face of the Browns culture shift from his arrival in 2017 to his departure in 2021.
The ex-Dolphins wideout was traded to Cleveland after an 0-16 season and immediately changed the way that the Browns carried themselves and how they were viewed around the league. Landry's emphatic rant from Hard Knocks in 2018 when he called out the entire wide receiver room is a moment that almost encapsulates the role he played in the Browns culture shift.
After the Browns unforgettable playoff win against the Steelers, they moved on face the Chiefs and wound up falling a couple plays short of advancing to the AFC Championship game. Unfortunately, they didn't get it done but had the makings of a group that could make another run.
Things came unraveled after the 2021 season and Cleveland's front office felt it was time to blow things up and start fresh.
For Landry, he was a part of the turnaround and wanted to be there for the solution. And as he expressed on social media on Thursday, he hoped to stick around with the team but wound up being released instead.
As Landry recounts the story, he asked the front office to restructure his contract and while he waited the Browns traded for Amari Cooper and Landry was handed his pink slip.
Landry leaving Cleveland marked the end of an era, one that fans will always remember but that also ended in disappointment. Baker Mayfield regressed towards the end of that window, Odell Beckham Jr. forced his way out of town and Cleveland wasted several years of prime Nick Chubb and Myles Garrett.
Landry had more to say about his time in Cleveland as well, including making it known that there were personalities he didn't necessarily jive with in the locker room but he kept his head down for the betterment of the team.
He went on to praise his teammates during that time and didn't want to take full credit for Cleveland's turn around. That said, the Browns are where they are today because of Landry's contributions.
Part of Landry's rant on X also included him making a plea for why he should still have a job in the league. Even if he never plays a snap again, he'll be remembered fondly for his time with the Browns as he was truly a catalyst for the team's culture changed.
