Garrett Passed Over for AFC Defensive Player of the Month

Is the NFL signaling that awards may be hard to come by while wearing a Browns jersey? Maybe not, but Garrett's play is certainly as worthy as anyone.

The Cleveland Browns have the most dominant defense in the NFL after the first three weeks of the season. They lead the league in a variety of statistics while also ranking close or breaking historic records along the way.

One might think that the best player on that kind of defense might just carry some weight when it would come to being chosen for awards but that simply isn't the case for Browns' star defensive end Myles Garrett.

It was Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt who gets to take home the award for the month of September. Garrett and Watt have both been outstanding for their teams by making life miserable for opposing quarterbacks.

Watt currently leads the NFL with 6 sacks and Garrett is close behind with 4.5. While Watt's statistics are slightly better Garrett is putting up some advanced stats and metrics that more accurately tell the story of his impact. Garrett leads the NFL in pressure percentage according to PFF by creating pressure on 23.4% of his pass rush snaps.

Garrett also has generated some next level highlights with the pre snap disruption he can cause by lining up allover the formation. In week one he walked up to the middle of the interior performing a crossover dribble and last week made the Titans look cartoonish by having two tight ends follow him back and forth the line of scrimmage.

This is the second time in as many days that Garrett has been snubbed for a league honor. Yesterday, the AFC Defensive Player of the Week was given to another player despite Garrett having 3.5 sacks in the game against Tennessee.
