Gators DT Gervon Dexter Makes Strong Case to Browns Among Others in Indy
It's no secret the Cleveland Browns need to improve their defense this off-season, specifically upfront. New defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has always prided himself in having a dominant defensive line. Even though much of that work is expected to come in free agency which is set to be underway in less than two weeks, the Browns could acquire additional help in this year's NFL Draft.
Florida Gators DT Gervon Dexter could hear his name called during the draft by the Browns after turning in a strong performance in athletic testing at the scouting combine. That could come perhaps as early as the 42nd pick, their first in this year's draft as things currently stand.
Dexter prides himself in being a good teammate off the field and said he wanted to show that to NFL teams this week.
Dexter had the opportunity to meet with the Browns earlier this week in Indianapolis.
Dexter weighed in at 6-foot-6, 310-pounds and ran a 4.88 40-yard dash on Thursday at Lucas Oil Stadium. He produced one of the better athletic profiles among the defensive line group which ensures teams like the Browns will have to do their due diligence and decide if his potential is worth betting on in April's draft.
The medical evaluation and team interviews will also play a role in that evaluation. But for Dexter, a player that wanted to come in and give his all this week, he should feel good about what he was able to accomplish this week.
