Browns' Coach Kevin Stefanski Names Starting Quarterback For The Remainder Of The Season
The Browns completed a 31-27 thriller victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. No more than 30 minutes after the teams left the field, Browns' head coach Kevin Stefanski emphatically named Joe Flacco the starter for the remainder of the football season.
Flacco was on his couch watching NFL Redzone three weeks ago with his family. To stay in shape, he and his brother would play catch in their backyard just to keep his arm loose in case an opportunity arose.
Then, on November 12, quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending injury to his throwing shoulder and left the Browns in a tough position.
Andrew Berry and his team made a call to Flacco and through a grainy iPhone photo, the Browns fanbase learned that Flacco was on a flight heading toward Cleveland.
Cleveland didn't give him much time to settle in. In his first week as a Brown, Dorian Thompson-Robinson suffered a concussion against the Denver Broncos. It was Flacco's time.
From his first start in Los Angeles, Flacco proved that he had more than enough gas left in the tank. In his two starts, he is 1-1 and has compiled some pretty great stats.
Through two games, he completed 49-for-99 for 565 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. He has protected the football, for the most part, and has proved to this team that they can win with him.
The best part is that he is only going to continue to improve. The steps that he took from Los Angeles to this this week against the Jaguars were evident. The improvement he will continue to make might be enough to lead this team into the playoffs.
Joe Flacco, the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. That has a nice ring to it.
