Locker Room Buzz: Best Reactions From Browns Huge Win Over San Francisco

Here's what the Browns are saying after the held off San Francisco on Sunday afternoon, 19-17.

As you might imagine, the Browns were in a pretty celebratory mood after Sunday's win over San Francisco. Cleveland has a defense that deserves to be celebrated and discussed around the league as quite possibly the best in the game.

PJ Walker made just enough plays to win on a day where the offense settled for 4 field goals and scored one touchdown (on a fun play design that actually involved taking Walker off the field).

Here are some of the best quotes from the team postgame.

Kevin Stefanski on what they did to shut down San Francisco's potent offense

“Yeah. I mean, Coach (Jim) Schwartz and the defensive staff were outstanding all week, really. I go back to our Wednesday practice. I told the team after practice, I said, if you measure a practice by how it sounds, we had the best practice of our season because the energy was off the charts and it was led by the defense. It’s led by Ogbo (Okoronkwo) and Z (Za’Darius Smith) and Dalvin (Tomlinson) and Juan (Thornhill) and all those guys – JOK (Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah) you name them, they brought the energy all week. They were so excited for this challenge and I thought Coach [Schwartz] put those guys in position to go make plays.”

Kevin Stefanski on if he thinks this can be a srping board game for Kareem Hunt for the rest of the year

“I do. And I think we’ve talked about Kareem getting back into football shape and he’s there or he’s getting there. He hadn’t been tackled in a while, but felt like we wanted to get him going early so started him in this game and got him a screen early, but I can’t say enough about Kareem and Jerome (Ford). Those guys are running hard, hitting it. It’s not always pretty, but I’m really proud of those guys.”

Myles Garrett on finding a way to win and fighting through adversity with so many injuries to the team this week

“Find a way to win. When the chips are down and odds are against you, you know you have to make the most of what you got. We played the best we could with the cards were dealt and made the most out of it. Those guys, credit to them on offense, came in ready to play. We knew they would. And even though we had a couple of people go down on defense, the next man up was ready for the moment and consistently got stops because those guys knew exactly what they needed to do. And always on their P’s and Q’s throughout the week and it showed today.”

PJ Walker on embracing being the underdog this week

“They tie their shoes like us, man. At the end of the day, they’re good, but we are all here for a reason. And at the end of the day, that’s what it’s about. I mean, they’re a great team. They’re a great football team. And for us, it’s just go out there and battle. We ain’t going to bow down to nobody and that’s it.”

PJ Walker on not ignoring all of the doubters this week

“Ain’t nobody listening to that. I’m not and I don’t know what the other guys in the locker room is, but I ain’t listening to the outside noise, man. That’s just a distraction. And it’s all about the guys in this building. At the end of the day, we the ones that got to play for each other. We got to go out there and compete against the other squad, so for us just to go out there and do what we do as a team, don’t worry about what other guys are doing.”

Amari Cooper on his 58-yard catch

“I studied those guys all week. You study the tendencies of the quarterback, and realize that they are aggressive and use their hands alot. It made me come to the realization that I just need to be patient so I made a couple guys fall at the line. There was another play where a guy caught an interception, so it was just a battle out there for us.”

Grant Delpit on whether this win sent a message around the league

“Yeah, they are going to cut up the tape. How many yards did we give up? It was like 170 before that last drive. That’s a good performance before that last drive. I’m sure they will cut up the tape and learn some things.”

Dustin Hopkins on the game-winning field goal

“Obviously on the sidelines, you feel that energy. People are excited and in my mind, I’m just going through my same keys of what I need to do to make the kick. I’m not celebrating, thinking about what I’m going to do after the game or anything. I’m just thinking about what I need to do to be successful.”
