Browns WR Marquise Goodwin Activated from NFI-List, Will Begin Practicing
The Cleveland Browns have announced that wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is being removed from the non-football illness list and will begin practicing. Goodwin has been receiving treatment for blood clots which has kept him out for the entire training camp to this point.
Goodwin was signed as a free agent this offseason to add more speed to the roster. He cited quarterback Deshaun Watson as a major reason he joined the Browns. Goodwin made a number of highlight plays in June minicamps before he was diagnosed with blood clots.
Along with Elijah Moore, Goodwin is another player with sprinter's speed that put stress on defenses and gives the Browns another way to attack the opponent.
Goodwin has been in Cleveland and with the team throughout training camp. He's been a positive influence around the team and helped to coach up his fellow receivers.
Now, he's going to get the opportunity to do what he came to the Browns to do and catch passes from Watson.
This does put another wrinkle into an already loaded wide receiver room. Austin Watkins Jr. was signed when Goodwin went on the non-football illness list and looked as though he might have locked up the sixth wide receiver spot. With Goodwin, that might be a little more complicated and put Watkins back on the bubble.
Roster cutdown day is Tuesday, August 29th, so the team still has time. They've already made one trade involving a player they weren't going to be able to keep, sending Tyrone Wheatley Jr. to the New England Patriots Pierre Strong Jr., likely the team's third running back.. They could potentially made another trade to get something in exchange for their seventh wide receiver.
