Myles Garrett's 2023 Award Collection Begins at The Greater Cleveland Sports Awards
Every year, the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission looks to honor local athletes from the pros to high school at the Greater Cleveland Sports Awards.
The event always serves as a nice reflection on the year of sports that was, while also bringing the entire city together to honor the sports greatness of Northeast Ohio.
On Tuesday the awards took center stage at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, with ESPN's Holly Rowe serving as host. The night's final award was the Professional Athlete of the Year, which was awarded to Browns' defensive end Myles Garrett.
Garrett's 2023 season was one of his best. He got off to a blistering start with 13 sacks in the first ten games of the season. The 28-year-old saw his numbers drop off sharply down the stretch of the season, but he still had an impact as the team went on to finish 11-6 and earn a playoff berth. Week after week Garrett was the focal point of the opposing team's offense.
He shared the following message of thanks after winning the award.
This is Garrett's second time taking home the Greater Cleveland Sports Award's Professional Athlete of the Year honor. He also received the award in 2021.
Since he was drafted in 2017, Garrett has slowly become more and more integrated into the city. Garrett has said he plans to make Cleveland home beyond his playing days and he recently purchased a minority stake in the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Along with Garrett being recognized, the Browns organization also took home another award for Sports Moment of the Year, as the team's memorable Thursday Night Win over the Jets on Dec. 28 that allowed the team to clinch a playoff berth was recognized.
It may be just the beginning for Garrett and the Browns in terms of offseason awards.
