National Writer has DTR at Top of List
The reviews from the Hall of Fame game are in after 6.3 million people watched, making it the highest rated HOF game since 2018. One of those viewers was Sports Ilustrated's senior writer and co-host of the MMQB Podcast, Conor Orr.
He wrote an article on Thursday morning titled: What to Watch in Week 1 of NFL Preseason. In it, Orr lists Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson number one on his list of things to watch from this week's preseason slate of games, stating that he is so fun to watch.
Orr called the Jets-Browns preseason opener solid, and was blown away by the performance of Thompson-Robinson while attempting to write a column about Zach Wilson. Orr claimed that Thompson-Robinson lit up the fourth quarter of the game. He went on to recognize DTR for his decisiveness from the pocket and quick release, as well as keeping his shoulders squared to the developing play while scrambling and hitting his pass catchers in stride.
For Orr, Thompson-Robinson impressed by shining in what is an often difficult spot for rookie quarterbacks, being asked to throw to receivers who can still be somewhat unfamiliar. With the expectations that Thompson-Robinson would need an up-tempo, Chip Kelly-style offense to see NFL success early, Orr seems pleasantly surprised by what he saw from DTR and will certainly be tuned in this week as the Browns take on the Commanders.
While many pundits who cover the Browns full-time have given Thompson-Robinson praise during Training Camp and preseason it's nice to see him getting recognized in the national media.
