NFL Fines Thompson-Robinson
The NFL announced that it had fined rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson $4,642 for unnecessary roughness during last week's preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. In the game Thompson-Robinson was flagged for an illegal blindside block.
On the play Thompson-Robinson handed off to Demetric Felton and managed to get out front and block. After the initial block, the defender was routed to the sideline where the play continued and DTR followed up with another shot from the backside. The officials threw the flag for unnecessary roughness immediately after. You can watch the full play below.
While being an eager and willing blocker in his time so far, I feel that the Browns coaches will be a bigger deterrent than any possible fines moving forward. You just can't risk your status with an injury when your team is depending on you to be under center.
Learning on the fly can be rough for rookies in the NFL, just days after earning his first promotion, he now finds himself on Roger Goodell's naughty list. To make things worse, it was brought to my attention that DTR hasn't even been paid yet. I ran across this post on X/Twitter by Quincy Avery who just happens to personally coach many of the leagues star QBs, including Deshaun Watson.
Avery is referring to the fact that players haven't picked up their first game check yet. That sure is rough, but fortunately for Thompson-Robinson perhaps the quarterback he now backs up can afford to loan him the money until he gets paid.
