NFL Insider Suggests Browns Are Likely To Open 2024 Season In Brazil
Just a few weeks removed from the NFL's announcement of an international game to be played in São Paulo, Brazil next season, one league insider the first of its kind matchup could feature the Browns.
In his weekly Football Night In America column for NBC Sports, long-time NFL reporter Peter King noted that he was "feeling good" about the Browns opening up the season on Friday, Sept. 6 against the Eagles in Brazil.
Philadelphia was already revealed as the home team for the game earlier this month. Their opponent, however, is not expected to be officially revealed until the the week of the league's schedule reveal special in May. The NFL's international slate is usually announced a few days in advance of every team's entire schedule being revealed.
Also notable is the fact that the game is slated to be played on the Friday night of Week 1, marking what will be the league's first such game in the opening week of the season since 1970.

If King's "feeling" comes to fruition, it means Cleveland would start the 2024 season with back-to-back road games. The team recently announced major concert featuring Bill Joel and Rod Stewart, which is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13 – one week after the Browns potential season opener in Brazil. The turnaround from the concert to a Sunday game two days later is an all but impossible task for the team's grounds crew to pull off.
The Browns last played in an international game in 2017, in what was a 33-16 loss to the Vikings. To this point that was the franchise's only appearance in an international game since the league adopted the practice back in 2007.
