Pat McAfee Declares Browns' QB Deshaun Watson Is Back
ESPN host Pat McCafee led off the "Week 10 Walkoff Banaza" section of his weekly Overreaction Monday Show with a smile from ear to ear. He took a pause out of his opening monologue and exclaimed,
"Don't look now. Don't look now. Deshaun Watson might be Deshaun Watson again."
He may just be right with that assessment of Watson and the state of the Cleveland Browns. Watson came through with his first comeback victory for the Browns on Sunday and it has caught the attention of the national media.
There are so many layers to the Watson discussion and the dialogue surrounding the Browns this year. Ultimately the team will go as far as Watson is able to take them.
If the Browns get mediocre quarterback play - like that in the first half against Baltimore - they will either miss the playoffs entirely or fizzle out in the tournament quickly. If they get good quarterback play, they will have a chance to make a run. If they get great quarterback play - like what Watson put on display in the second half - here is no reason they can't win the North, host a playoff game and make a deep postseason run.
McCafee and his crew continued the Watson conversation with Pat breaking down the game-winning drive:
"The end of the game was PHENOMENAL. Second-and-19, STRIKE to Cooper... Deshaun Watson breaking tackles, spinning, running... Then he hands it off to Ford, stumblin', bumblin', rumblin'. Now we are in field goal range."
The point of this segment was to show the record, five walk-off kicks from Sunday's action. McCafee broke down Cleveland's entire game-winning drive and then set the scene for Dustin Hopkins.
"Then, from 40 yards, dead center, Dustin Hopkins out of Florida State says 'give me that, let's win!"
Watson's performance yesterday is sweeping a main topic in Monday's national storylines. His performance certainly put Browns fans at ease that hlhe's still got that elite QB magic in him and can play the position at an elite level.
Encouraging at Cleveland's Week 10 win was and Watson's second-half effort, the next step in his return is producing a full 60-minutes of great QB play. If he fan do that, he'll thrust the Browns into the conversation of being one of the the league's best teams.
