Bucs WR Chris Godwin fights through injury, has career day in win vs. Rams
Don't call him a No. 2 receiver.
Chris Godwin was anything but for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, slicing and dicing the Los Angeles Rams on his way to a career-best performance.
It almost didn't happen.
Godwin missed practice all week with a nagging hip injury, and was a game-time decision for Sunday's 55-40 shootout win over the defending NFC champions.
The former Penn State star was able to play anyway, and I'm betting the Rams' secondary had wished otherwise. Godwin posted career-highs with 12 receptions, 172 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Sure, Mike Evans got his, too. The team's "No. 1" receiver still caught four passes for 89 yards, including a 67-yard score to stretch Tampa Bay's lead in the fourth quarter. But Godwin moved the chains all day long, proving to be too much for a talented defensive backfield.
Not bad for a third-round pick.
