It was a banner night for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense, as they stifled Cam Newton, Christian McCaffrey and the Carolina Panthers on the road Thursday night.

But that performance wouldn't have mattered if not for some key plays by the Tampa Bay offense, and many of them came from wide receiver Chris Godwin.

The third-year pass-catcher out of Penn State looked like anything but a No. 2 wide receiver Thursday, leading the Bucs with 121 yards on eight receptions, and hauling in Jameis Winston's only touchdown pass of the night with an impressive diving catch.

While Mike Evans turned in a much better performance than we saw in Week 1 (four receptions, 61 yards), it was Godwin who looked like Winston's favorite target, moving the chains multiple times in key third-down situations.

If opposing defenses are going to keep keying on Evans this season, Godwin should continue to take full advantage by putting up big numbers of his own.
