Broadcasting Icon Believes Former Buccaneer Tom Brady Doesn't Belong in Broadcast Booth
Bob Costas is one of the most successful sports broadcasters in American history. During his illustrious 39-year career covering the NBA, the MLB, and the Olympics, Costas earned himself an incredible 28 Emmy Awards.
Meanwhile, Tom Brady is set to make his debut as the in-game NFL analyst for FOX's NFL coverage starting next season and is hoping that his unparalleled success on the football field will translate into similar success in the broadcast booth.

Costas was recently asked during an interview with the New York Post to offer his thoughts on Brady's potential as a broadcaster. In doing so, he was quick to declare his belief that Brady would be much better suited for an in-studio role than he is for the in-game analyst position he is set to undertake for FOX.
“They didn’t ask me, and I don’t expect them to, but if I were running it, I’d use him in the studio rather than on games.” Costas said.
He went on to explain his rationale.
“The glamour factor, the on-camera factor, and also, it’s less of a strain on him. The level of preparation to work a game and what it takes to get the hang of it, it’s just an easier fit in the studio.”
Although Costas has earned the right to offer his opinion on what is undoubtedly his area of expertise, the suggestion that the 'level of preparation' could be an issue for Brady feels like a reach. Beyond his accolades on the field, Tom Brady earned a reputation for being one of the most committed, hard-working, and well-prepared competitors in the history of the sport. Not to mention, Brady's 23-years of experience studying and analyzing NFL teams' strengths and weaknesses will come in extremely handy for this in-game analyst role with FOX.

That said, there's a lot more that goes into the role than just knowing the X's and O's. Brady would certainly bring a lot of prestige to an in-studio role, but his knowledge has the potential to provide some extremely valuable insight during games.
It would be wise to not count him out until we see what he can do in the booth.
