Buccaneers' GM Jason Licht: "Rachaad is going to be a stud"

Tampa Bay Buccaneers' general manager Jason Licht is very optimistic about the team's running back room.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' run game last season was one of the worst in the league. Following the end of the 2022 season, the team knew they were going to need to make some changes during the offseason to address the situation, which led to the eventual release of veteran running back Leonard Fournette.

The Buccaneers opted not to dig too deep into the free agency running back pool, but they were able to sign veteran Chase Edmonds to a low-level deal to join incumbent starter Rachaad White and Ke'Shawn Vaughn in the running back rotation.

General manager, Jason Licht, did not rule out drafting a running back in the upcoming NFL draft, but he did convey that he is confident in the guys the Bucs currently will roll with at the RB position.

"I think it’s a good running back draft; I think that has a little to do with it. Just more and more teams — I don’t want to speak on behalf of us — but there’s just more and more teams now that don’t believe in paying running backs. So we really like our group, really like our group. We think Rachaad [White] is going to be a stud. We really like Ke’Shawn [Vaughn]. We’ve always liked Ke’Shawn. I know he’s been with us for three years, but he really hasn’t gotten opportunities. When he has, he’s done some good things. And we got Chase [Edmonds signed in free agency]. I’m not saying we’re done there, but we like the room that we got now."

The Buccaneers running back room should get a lift this season with second-year guy, Rachaad White, becoming the starter. However, there will be lofty expectations from the group as a whole considering how dreadful the running game was last season. To be successful in the NFL you must have a balanced offensive attack. Hopefully this year, the Bucs' running backs will be able to get back on track to help teeter defenses away from the passing game.
