New Buccaneers EDGE Randy Gregory's Contract Details Revealed
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost a veteran in Shaquil Barrett to the Miami Dolphins toward the start of free agency, but they made sure to pick up another experienced edge rusher to take his place toward the end of it.
The team announced on Wednesday that it was signing pass rusher Randy Gregory, who was a free agent after starting the year with the Denver Broncos and then being traded to the San Francisco 49ers before the deadline. Gregory will look to serve as a depth rotational piece, coming to Tampa Bay at 31 years old with two sacks last year.
And now, the details behind his contract with Tampa Bay have been revealed. NFL reporter Aaron Wilson tweeted on Thursday that Gregory is set to make $3 million in base salary with a maximum value of up to $5 million on a one-year deal with the Bucs.
That is indeed less money than Barrett commanded, as he signed a one-year deal worth up to $9 million with the Miami Dolphins. As such, the Bucs retain some veteran presence on the defensive line while keeping it a bit cheaper, and Gregory could be a strong rotational piece for head coach Todd Bowles once the new season begins in 2024.
