Bucs Hall of Famer joins Deion Sanders’ staff at Colorado
A Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend is bringing his expertise to the college football realm, and he'll be working under another defensive Hall of Famer.
Former Bucs legend Warren Sapp has gone on quite a few ventures after his NFL career, but now, he's getting into the coaching game. Colorado head coach Deion Sanders officially revealed Sapp as a graduate assistant for the team. As such, he's also enrolled in classes at Colorado to be able to do so.
Sapp's official title is "senior quality control analyst", and the job will be his first coaching job. Graduate assistants typically aren't compensated very well, but the move could give Sapp some coaching experience that would lead him to bigger opportunities in the future.
Sapp spent 12 seasons in the NFL, and eight of those were with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In that span, he won a Super Bowl with the team in 2002 and was awarded six All-Pro selections, four of them consecutive first-team nods from 1999-2002.
The Buffaloes, meanwhile, might be able to use the defensive help. Colorado's defense wasn't incredible last year, giving up 30 or more points in seven of their 12 games to go 4-8. Sanders, a defensive legend himself, may just be trying to pull out all the stops to improve his own struggling unit.
