Buccaneers' Quarterback Baker Mayfield Injury Update After X-Ray on Hand

While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense struggled against the Detroit Lions, quarterback Baker Mayfield suffered a hand injury.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a brutal, 20-3 loss to the Detroit Lions, who look very legit after their hot start to the season. After they rallied towards the end of last season, the question of whether the Lions were going to be able to continue winning was asked, and they've answered.

This hit the Buccaneers in the meantime, though, who were over-succeeding to start the season. Now, they must get back on the right side of the win column moving forward.

To make matters worse, Buccaneers starting quarterback Baker Mayfield is dealing with a left-hand injury. Though it's not his throwing hand, it still matters when doing simple things like fielding snaps and handing the ball off.

After the loss, when speaking to the media, Mayfield said the x-ray on his left hand came back negative, so that's good news moving forward. His left hand still seems to be bothering the way he moves, though.

Mayfield finished the game with 206 yards while completing 19 of his 37 passes -- just over a 50 percent completion rate. He also threw an interception while passing for no touchdowns.

Speaking after the loss, head coach Todd Bowles said Mayfield's injury was a contusion.

Mayfield, though, wasn't going to let his injury be an excuse for the loss.

"At some point we need to get pissed off as an offense," he said after the game. "We should be scoring a lot more points. I think the defense and special teams did an amazing job yet again and offense we've just got to pick our s--t up."

While still leading the NFC South, which is a generally poor conference, the Buccaneers will need to see consistency from Mayfield if they want to see postseason play, and potentially compete in a Wild Card matchup.
