Buccaneers Quarterback Baker Mayfield Putting Up Similar Stats to Patrick Mahomes

Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes, statistically, haven't been that far off from each other this season.

Baker Mayfield's season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has been quite a wild ride. He showed promise early in the season, but then the losing streak had things looking rocky for him and the offense. Since then, Mayfield has found his stride under center for the Buccaneers. The team is on a four-game win streak and Mayfield has absolutely been rolling since then.

Mayfield has continued to improve and show why he deserves a starting quarterback role in the NFL. He's helped the Buccaneers out in a time of need as Tom Brady is retired and the franchise has to head into a new direction.

This season, Mayfield has thrown for 3,598 passing yards on the season with 26 passing touchdowns to his eight interceptions. Averaging 239.9 passing yards per game, Mayfield has been an impressive passer, but his ability to extend plays with his legs and is an incredible leader.

When it comes to breaking down the statistics, Mayfield has been quite similar if not better than Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes, which is entirely weird to think about considering the narrative surrounding the two this season.

On the season, Mahomes has 3,938 passing yards -- which beats out Mayfield -- but has just 26 touchdowns to his 14 interceptions this season, while his Chiefs have a 9-6 record. Its safe to say the Chiefs aren't living up to their expectations following a Super Bowl win a season ago, and Mahomes season is a part of that.

Mayfield has absolutely raised the Buccaneers' ceiling this season, and he's been the perfect quarterback to launch the franchise's new era without Brady. With his personality and ability to pass the football, he's been the spark the team needed.

As of right now, the Buccaneers are 8-7 on the season and lead the NFC South. It looks like Mayfield is going to be able to lead the Buccaneers back to the playoffs in his first year with the franchise.
