Buccaneers Sign Former Super Bowl Winning Quarterback to Practice Squad
Out with the old, in with the new.
This offseason, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought in two new quarterbacks to replace the old guard of Tom Brady and backup Blaine Gabbert. Those two QBs were Baker Mayfield and John Wolford.
For Baker, it was clear that he would enter the offseason in Tampa Bay in a heated quarterback battle with third-year former University of Florida QB Kyle Trask - the former went on to win the starting job.
As for Wolford, he was brought in to become the Buccaneers' third quarterback on the depth chart.
After going undrafted out of Wake Forest University in 2018, Wolford was signed by the New York Jets before latching on with the Los Angeles Rams from 2019-2022.
Wolford started one game for the Rams in 2020 going 22/38 for 231 yards and 0 touchdowns to one interception on his way to his first career victory.

Wolford will most be remembered for coming in for the Rams as their starter last season when they were dealing with a myriad of injuries at the position. During that three-game span, Wolford went 1-2 while throwing for 390 yards and 1 touchdown to three interceptions.
After moving on to the Buccaneers this offseason it was presumed that Wolford would be solidified as the team's third quarterback. However, those assumptions came to rest once the Bucs released the QB a couple of days ago.
That was short lived however as the Bucs made the quick move to retain Wolford as they signed him back to their practice squad.

The Buccaneers will take two active quarterbacks into the season but will have Wolford available in case of an emergency now that he has landed on the practice squad.
