Carlton Davis Praises Justin Jefferson Ahead of Matchup Against Vikings
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers open regular season play with a Week 1 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. One of the Buccaneers' biggest strengths over the years has been their defense -- which will be put to the test in the opening week of the NFL.
On the other side of the ball for the Buccaneers' defense will be Justin Jefferson for the Vikings. The team's secondary will get an incredible idea of where they are as a unit playing such a talented receiver.
Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis understands what type of challenge they've got coming.

“Does a lot of good things," said Davis about Jefferson. "Explosive, good after the catch. He’s one of the top receivers in the league right now so it’s gonna be fun, real fun.”
Jefferson is currently one of the top receivers in the entire NFL. He's going to continue taking leaps and wreaking havoc for opposing defenses, and the Buccaneers are lucky they get him Week 1 in the off chance he needs some time to get going.
He racked up 1,809 receiving yards and eight touchdowns with 128 receptions last season, torching teams on a weekly basis to lead the league in receptions and receiving yards. This game will rely a lot on his impact. Suppressing Jefferson to any extent handicaps the productivity of the Vikings' offense.
Again, Carlton understands the magnitude and will get the opportunity to help slow down Jefferson alongside Jamel Dean. Carlton has been in the NFL for five seasons, heading into his sixth year, all having been spent with the Buccaneers.
Carlton has no interceptions in his career, which consists of 64 games -- 63 of those being starts -- and could be in a position to do so on Sunday if guarding Jefferson. Targets will come his way and it will be up to him to make impressive plays on the ball.
