Carolina Panthers Likely to Hire Buccaneers' Assistant as Offensive Coordinator

The Buccaneers could soon have another staffer role to fill as the WRs coach might be headed to North Carolina.

With the news of Dave Canales taking a head coaching job with the Carolina Panthers, one could have assumed there was going to end up being a ripple effect. There will now be coaching changes for the Buccaneers, but there could soon be more roles to fill.

As BucsGameday's JC Allen reported on Friday, the Panthers requested to interview Buccaneers WRs coach Brad Idzik, which comes as no surprise with Canales filling the lead role after departing from Tampa.

Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that the Panthers will "likely go" with Idzik as their hire for their offensive coordinator vacancy. This would come as no surprise, as it would add familiarity for Canales, who is set to lead the franchise.

Idzik and Canales have worked together for five years. They coached alongside each other for four years with the Seattle Seahawks before putting together an impressive 2023 campaign with the Buccaneers. Obviously, Canales taking a bigger role with a new franchise has opened the road for Idzik to also get a promotion and land a bigger new role.

Idzik is also receiving interest from the Buccaneers for an in-house promotion to become the team's new offensive coordinator after having lost Canales. Losing another staffer would force the Buccaneers to add more and more of a fresh look to the franchise moving forward.

This past season, Idzik played a role in Mike Evans, once again, surpassing the 1,000 receiving yards mark as he's yet to fail to reach that mark in his career. This benefitted Baker Mayfield, whose turnaround helped put Canales on the map as a coach.

According to multiple reports, the Buccaneers are showing interest in Houston Texans quarterback coach Jerrod Johnson. He helped lead a turnaround that saw rookie CJ Stroud lead their franchise back into the playoffs.
