BREAKING: Buccaneers Linebacker Signed By Philadelphia Eagles
The fate of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Devin White has been up in the air since he asked for a trade at the beginning of last offseason, and now, he's officially leaving the Bucs.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Thursday that White is set to join the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year deal worth up to 7.5 million dollars. White joins Philly just a little after the Bucs defeated the Eagles in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs in 2023.
White's tenure in Tampa Bay has been up and down. He was drafted with the fifth-overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft out of LSU and made an immediate splash — he's known by Bucs fans for his contributions during the team's Super Bowl run in 2020 in a tough playoff stretch, but while his blinding speed and aggressive pursuits have made great things happen in Tampa Bay, they've also come with caveats.
Buccaneers GM Jason Licht Comments on Signing Free Agent Safety Jordan Whitehead
White has been oft criticized for the angles he takes when attempting to tackle and his occasional lack of effort on the football field, and his 2023 was a rough one. He dealt with ankle and groin injuries on the year, and he began to get phased out after linebacker K.J. Britt came in for him during injury. Britt maintained his playtime when White returned and the two began splitting reps.
Devin White had a big contract in mind when he requested a trade in the offseason while unhappy with playing on his fifth-year option, but now, he settles for a one-year prove-it deal. He'll join a Philadelphia team that has been in need of linebackers, so he'll have the opprotunity to get back on track with some new scenery.
During his career as a Buccaneers, White has amassed 364 solo tackles, 23 sacks, nine fumble recoveries, three interceptions and a Super Bowl ring in 2020.
