Former Buccaneers’ Head Coach Bruce Arians Reveals Thoughts on Baker Mayfield
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are off to a scorching start going 2-0 against the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears - one that not many saw coming leading up to the season.
With the unexpected play and direct results from it, the narrative surrounding this Buccaneers' team is slowly starting to turn. The team is playing at such a high level to begin the season in all three phases of the game: offense, defense, and special teams.
The offense, although not super explosive, has been the model of consistency since the second half of the Vikings week one matchup - a stark contrast to the product the Bucs put on the field last season. The running game is slowly, finally starting to get going. The offensive line is playing well above expectations after gaining camaraderie this off-season, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin continue to be the playmakers they are, and perhaps most surprising the uber-efficient play from QB Baker Mayfield.

Mayfield's excellent level of play is being resounded across the league and even former Tampa Bay Buccaneers' head coach, Bruce Arians, is paying attention and loving what he is seeing from Baker. Arians commented on the Buccaneers and Mayfield specifically in his weekly podcast "No Risk It, No Biscuit" with sports broadcaster Melanie Collins.
"Yeah, I love the way they're interacting, you know going to practice the other day there's a great vibe. Guys love Baker. He's a fighter. They believe in Kyle Trask too, but right now that's another team that, to me, not surprising to be 2-0 and gotta stay healthy also, but Baker has brought some life to that offense. And, like I told him, you don't need to be trying to run any linebackers over every week, put some bigger shoulder pads on, but you've already won your locker room over you don't have to do that bravado sh*t, but I love to watch him play."
