Former Buccaneers' Quarterback Offers Harsh Assessment of Kyle Trask

Shaun King took a strong stance on the Buccaneers' current quarterback competition.
In this story:

Shaun King was one of the most popular and exciting quarterbacks to suit up for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Although he didn't remain the starter in Tampa for very long, he did provide plenty of memorable moments during his time running the offense, including a number of exciting playoff performances.

Long after his playing days, King has developed a respectable reputation as a sports media personality. He is a co-host of VSiN Live, a primetime show on the popular sports betting network by the same name, and a frequent guest on a wide range of sports talk TV and radio shows throughout North America.

According to Joe Bucs Fan, King weighed in on the current Buccaneers' quarterback competition on a recent episode of his show, VSiN PrimeTime.

After claiming that he is getting reports from his "boots on the ground in Tampa", King said he believes that Mayfield will be the team's starter for Week 1.

He went on to offer some very harsh criticism of the team's former second-round pick, Kyle Trask, who is by all accounts competing with Mayfield for the team's starting role this year.

"Kyle Trask stinks... Listen, if Kyle Trask had done anything in practice during his two years backing up Tom Brady, Tampa doesn't go out and sign Baker Mayfield. He'd have had to have been terrible in practice. Because when you draft a quarterback second round, you want to be right. Jason Licht wants that pick to pan out."

As a former second-round pick of the Buccaneers himself, King is certainly entitled to his opinion. And although his criticism of Trask is extremely blunt, it's hard to defend Trask when we haven't had the opportunity to dissect his performance on the field.

But the coaches have. And according to the Buccaneers' head coach, Todd Bowles, they expect to be in a position to name their starting quarterback during, or after training camp in July

But if Mayfield does earn the starting job, as most people expect, then there's a chance we won't even get the chance to find out if King is correct in his assessment that Kyle Trask "stinks".
