Kurt Warner's Son Makes Debut With Bucs In Stadium Where He Played In Super Bowl XLIII

To make it even wilder, Kade Warner made his debut in a loss against the same team that defeated his father in Super Bowl XLIIII.
In this story:

It's more than likely that you've heard the phrase 'like father, like son' before. However, the similarities between the beginning of undrafted rookie wide receiver Kade Warner's career and the final Super Bowl appearance of his father, Kurt Warner's, Hall of Fame career are something you can't even draw up in a movie.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers opened up their preseason slate with a 27-17 defeat against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Raymond James Stadium. Coincidentally enough, the elder Warner suited up against the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII in 2007. It was a game that Warner and the Arizona Cardinals lost 27-23 in Tampa.

In attendance to watch his son make his debut with the Buccaneers, Warner reflected on the crazy coincidence on social media.

"Last SB I played in vs. Steelers in Buccaneers Stadium...Today my son plays his 1st game for the Bucs vs. Steelers in that same stadium!!! You can't make this stuff up... & I never thought I'd cheer for TB, how quickly things change! #ProudPapa"

Warner ended up being targeted twice in his 24 offensive snaps, recording one catch for 10 yards on a throw from John Wolford in the fourth quarter. He graded out at 50.8 overall according to PFF, the lowest of any wide receiver on the roster.

Fellow rookie wide receiver and sixth-round pick Trey Palmer was the most impressive of the newcomers on Saturday. He hauled in four passes for 33 yards while coming down with an eye-popping touchdown from Baker Mayfield in the back of the end zone.

Don't count out Warner from making an impact down the stretch of training camp. He carries an underdog mentality after being counted out during his career, much like his father.

Warner spent six years at the college level, beginning his time as a walk-on at Nebraska before transferring to Kansas State for his final few seasons. He developed into a reliable playmaker, catching 60 passes for 622 yards and five touchdowns for the Wildcats.

The 6-foot-1, 204-pound wide receiver participated at Kansas State's Pro Day where he recorded a 4.72-second 40-yard dash, 4.23-second shuttle, 9'00" broad jump, 35-inch vertical jump and 13 bench-press reps of 225 pounds.
