Patrick Mahomes Speaks About Chasing Tom Brady's Super Bowl Number

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes comments on chasing Tom Brady's seven Super Bowl rings.
In this story:

Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback to ever play the game of football. That is a well-known fact amongst those who follow football and the NFL, but there may be another quarterback that can eclipse the records and 'GOAT' status that Brady currently holds - Kansas City Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes is already getting the recognition for being the best quarterback in the league and is working on accomplishing much more in his career. Brady is now retired and is no longer adding to his list of accolades, so for Mahomes, the goal he is setting out for himself - catching Brady - seems more and more likely as the seasons progress.

Tom Brady played in the NFL for an astonishing 23 seasons between the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Most of Brady's success came with the Patriots where he won six Super Bowls before leaving for Tampa Bay where he achieved his seventh Super Bowl victory out of a total of 10 appearances.

Patrick Mahomes almost immediately became an overnight sensation once he became the full-time starter in Kansas City, showing dazzling moves while making incredibly difficult throws from numerous arm angles. Mahomes will be entering his seventh season in the NFL and already has two titles. In their first five years in the league respectively, Brady leads Mahomes by just a single Super Bowl.

With things going the way they are for Patrick Mahomes it is hard to make the argument that he won't come close to approaching Brady's seven Championships.

However, it was hard to even imagine a quarterback ever winning seven Super Bowls as most players in the league will never even experience winning one. For Patrick Mahomes, seven is a tough standard to try and match, but ultimately he is up for the challenge.

“Seven’s a lot, but I’ll strive to get as close as I can,” Mahomes said. “To win seven Super Bowls and be in 10 Super Bowls, it’s crazy to even think about, even for me today. The other stats kinda come with it. I knew at Texas Tech, I put up a lot of stats but didn’t win games. When I got to the NFL, I knew I wanted to be a winner [first]. Try to win Super Bowls and give my team the best that I can.”

There is no doubt that Patrick Mahomes has the moxie and talent to attempt to reach the heights that Brady has, but he will need everything to work in his favor. His best bet is to see how far and how much he can win with the Kansas City Chiefs and Andy Reid before looking to explore his options elsewhere if he so chooses.

For now, Mahomes is set up to continue leading the NFL as the best player and quarterback. If Mahomes is serious about wanting to do nothing but win then he is on the right path as he has previously exclaimed that he plans to follow the "Brady plan" when it comes to taking less money to garner higher-level players to surround himself with.

Mahomes is setting himself up to be one of, if not the best, to ever play the game. If he continues on his current trend there won't be much to argue once it is all said and done.
