Shaq Barrett's Wife Chimes in on Recent Release From Buccaneers
On Tuesday morning, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers decided to release veteran Super Bowl Champion outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett after five seasons with the team. The announcement also came with the caveat that Barrett likely wouldn't be made an official cut until post-June 1st to save the organization roughly $5 million in salary cap space in 2024.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Release Super Bowl Champion Edge Rusher
Shaq has spent the last five years with the Buccaneers after coming over from the Denver Broncos. During his first season he led the NFL in sacks and the following season he played a pivotal role on the Bucs defense that went on to win Super Bowl - the team's second ever Lombardi Trophy. Barrett has been through a lot during his time in Tampa Bay and following the news of his release, his wife Jordanna took to Instagram to express her thoughts.
"Well the news is out. And we are sad! But truly it's a business! Tampa will forever hold such a special place in my heart! The community we have here, is incredible. We've never felt so loved and valued. Thank you to the Bucs, who undoubtedly have become family. Through the hardest year of our lives, the love and support they gave us is unmatched! And we are forever thankful! Who knows where the next road will lead us, but for now we're enjoying off season and are excited to see what's next! #TGBTG"
The move will allow for the Buccaneers to try and retain key free agents like Mike Evans and Baker Mayfield this offseason, but it doesn't hurt any less for the Barrett family who have dealt with a myriad of challenges over the past couple of seasons. There is a scenario in which Barrett could end up back in Tampa Bay, but for now, the family will weigh their options as he gears up to enter free agency.
