Significant Update Regarding Baker Mayfield, Buccaneers Contract
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will soon have the opportunity to ramp up discussions with quarterback Baker Mayfield about a potential return to the franchise. After signing a one-year deal with the team, Mayfield shined in a starting quarterback role, leading the Buccaneers to a 9-8 record and a playoff win over the Philadelphia Eagles in dominating fashion.
Before the season with the Buccaneers, Mayfield was trending in the wrong direction, and it certainly wasn't his fault. Now, the quarterback could see some real interest and the Buccaneers will have competition as he hits free agency because of his production for the Buccaneers last season.

The 28-year-old posted 4,044 passing yards and 28 touchdowns with just ten interceptions during the season, having a career year in his sixth season in the NFL. While his stint with the Los Angeles Rams over a year ago showed promise for Mayfield, his season with the Buccaneers certainly extended his NFL career.
Now, the Buccaneers will have the opportunity to increase their talks with Mayfield on a potential return next week in Indianapolis. Jason Licht will be in town to see college stars ready to take their talents to the pro level, but it'll also be a hub for the Buccaneers' general manager to talk with pending free agents. Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported that Mayfield and the team have had "preliminary talks" about a potential new agreement.
"Although nothing is imminent, the Bucs and Mayfield have had some preliminary talks about a new contract. Licht is expected to meet with Mayfield’s agent, Tom Mills, next week," Stroud reported. "Both sides have expressed an interest in reaching an agreement for Mayfield to return to Tampa Bay."
Mayfield's return could mean a lot for the franchise. They'd have stability under center for the future, and they could also see the return of Mike Evans, the team's star wide receiver for the last decade.
