Tampa Bay Buccaneers' First Round Draft Pick Buys Mother Home and Car

Buccaneers' first-round draft pick, Calijah Kancey, bought his mom a home and a car following his rookie contract signing.
In this story:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were able to beef up their defensive line in the 2023 NFL draft as they selected former Pitt defensive tackle Calijah Kancey with the 19th overall pick in the first round of the draft.

Kancey was a staple on the Pitt defensive line in college and was able to impress scouts during his pro day at Pitt and the NFL combine. His combination of speed and quickness at the position jumped out, making him a perfect pick for the Buccaneers who were looking to sure up their defensive line after losing depth the past few years.

In his final season with Pitt, Kancey was a unanimous All-American and ACC Defensive Player of the Year while posting 31 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss (led the nation for interior defensive linemen), and 7.5 sacks before his season ended due to a shoulder injury.

After being selected in the mid-first round by the Buccaneers', Kancey signed a four-year rookie contract with the team worth $14,493,475, with a $7,540,709 signing bonus.

Once rookies get their money there is no telling what they might spend it on. Iced out chains, maybe. A new car seems nice, but for Calijah Kancey it was making sure his mother got the benefits of his signing bonus as Kancey took care of the woman who helped get him to the place he is by purchasing her a new home AND a new car.

Kancey has done all the right things since being drafted by the Bucs, and if this is any indication of the type of person he is, he will fit in well in the Tampa Bay locker room as they continue to try and change the culture and narrative heading into a new era.
